Elche Mollar Pomegranate celebrates 10 years of Protected Designation of Origin
The Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) for Elche Mollar pomegranate is celebrating its tenth anniversary, marking a decade of agricultural excellence in the Valencian region. The designation ensures rigorous quality and provenance standards, helping the fruit gain international recognition as a unique product among hundreds of pomegranate varieties.
To promote the product, the upcoming 'Menjars de la Terra' event will take place from October 19 to 23, featuring five restaurants in the Baix Vinalopó region. Francisco Oliva, president of the DOP Regulatory Council, noted that gastronomy and local initiatives have been essential in educating consumers about the fruit's value and its unique cultivation conditions.
Regional officials have also emphasized that water security is vital for the sector's future. Maintaining the Tajo-Segura and Júcar-Vinalopó water transfers is considered essential to guarantee agricultural viability, employment, and the involvement of new generations of farmers in the region.
