Elco Brinkman, former Dutch CDA leader and minister, dies at 78
Former Dutch CDA leader and minister Elco Brinkman has passed away at the age of 78 following a brief illness. Brinkman held several prominent roles in Dutch public life, including serving as Minister of Welfare, Health, and Culture from 1982 to 1989.
In addition to his political career, which included leading the CDA parliamentary group in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Brinkman was a significant figure in the Dutch construction and pension sectors. He served as the chairman of Bouwend Nederland until 2013 and held a leadership position at the ABP pension fund.
