Elden Ring launches on Nintendo Switch 2 with technical performance analysis

Elden Ring has launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, including its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Technical analysis indicates that FromSoftware has delivered a capable port that maintains the full game experience without significant content changes, though it requires certain graphical concessions to run on the new hardware.

In docked mode, the game utilizes dynamic 1080p resolution, while handheld mode operates at a dynamic 864p with a lower bound of 432p. The performance is capped at 40 FPS, though it typically runs between 30 and 35 FPS, with occasional dips to 25 FPS in handheld mode. While the Switch 2 version features lower foliage density and shadow detail compared to previous generations, it offers faster loading times than the PlayStation 4 and performs better than the original Xbox One.

Despite these technical compromises and occasional fluctuations in frame rate, the port is considered a successful adaptation of the 2022 Game of the Year title, preserving the core gameplay and scale of the open world.
