Eldense president Carolina Holguín resigns following sale to Lionel Messi

Carolina Holguín has stepped down as president of the Spanish football club Eldense following the sale of the team to footballer Lionel Messi. Holguín, a Colombian businesswoman who acquired 100% of the club's shares approximately one year ago, officially signed the purchase agreement this week.

In a farewell message, Holguín highlighted her tenure, which included the first team's promotion to LaLiga Hypermotion, as well as promotions for the women's team and the club's reserve side. She symbolically handed over the club to Messi, stating she leaves the institution “in the best hands.”

The transaction is currently awaiting the completion of due diligence and mandatory authorization from the Consejo Superior de Deportes. While Holguín has vacated the presidency, the club has not clarified if she remains a shareholder.
