Elderly Aids Limited fined for targeting seniors with nuisance calls

Elderly Aids Limited (EAL) has been fined £190,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for targeting elderly individuals with nuisance calls. Between May 2024 and February of last year, the company made nearly 760,000 cold calls to people registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), which is a service designed to allow individuals to opt out of unsolicited marketing calls.

According to the ICO, EAL callers were “aggressive, misleading, and often failed to identify themselves.” The company promoted call-blocking devices, sometimes persuading elderly individuals to pay upfront fees and monthly subscriptions. During the investigation, EAL reportedly ignored requests for information, continued making illegal calls, and attempted to strike itself off the Companies House register.

In addition to the fine, the ICO issued an enforcement notice requiring EAL to cease illegal marketing calls and comply with caller identification rules.
