Elderly care services face scrutiny in Peru and Dominican Republic
In Peru, an audit by the Contraloría has identified significant deficiencies in the administration of the Carpam ‘San Juan de Dios’ facility, managed by the Sociedad de Beneficencia de Ayacucho. The report revealed that the pensions of two dependent residents are being managed through verbal assignments to a staff member without formal designation, creating a risk of resource misappropriation. Additionally, the center lacks essential specialized personnel, including nurses, psychologists, and physical therapists, and has shown deficiencies in individual care plans and nutritional documentation.
In the Dominican Republic, the National Council for the Aging (CONAPE) is facing scrutiny following complaints from elderly citizens regarding the mismanagement of resources. Beneficiaries have reported significant delays and reductions in food rations, with some stating they have not received nutritional supplements for nearly a year. A CONAPE representative confirmed that food rations are now only distributed once per year. Furthermore, seniors have reported difficulties in accessing essential medical supplies and mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers.
