Elderly Civic Initiatives Launched in Uruguay and Dominican Republic

On June 17, the Durazno Departmental Council in Uruguay will host a special session of "Elderly Person as Councilor for a Day". Senior citizens from local organizations will sit in the council chamber to present proposals on health, recreation, culture, education and public services, engaging directly with departmental authorities.

In the Dominican Republic, the Central Electoral Board and the National Council for the Elderly began a nationwide mobile registration drive, aiming to issue identity and voting cards to about 4,745 seniors. Officials emphasized that the program "represents a commitment to dignity, inclusion and access to fundamental rights" for older adults, facilitating their participation in civic life and access to state services.
