Antonio Bettiol and Emilia Colognoli found dead in Sesto San Giovanni apartment
Antonio Bettiol, 81, and his wife Emilia Colognoli, 76, were discovered dead in their flat on via Monte San Michele in Sesto San Giovanni, a suburb of Milan. Neighbours alerted authorities after noticing a persistent foul odor and the continual barking of the couple's bassotto. Carabinieri, fire brigades and forensic specialists entered the premises on 30 July and found the bodies in an advanced state of decomposition. Early investigations found no obvious signs of violence and estimate the deaths occurred at least two weeks before discovery, likely from natural causes. The Procura di Monza has ordered autopsies to determine the precise cause and sequence of death. The couple had been married for 54 years, had no children, and were known locally for their daily visits to a nearby bar and minimarket.
