Elderly Found After Missing Person Searches in Germany and Austria

In Heidenheim-Mergelstetten, Germany, an 89‑year‑old woman with dementia was reported missing on a Thursday evening. Police, rescue dogs, and a helicopter were deployed, and mountain‑rescue units conducted a night search in the nearby forest. The search was suspended early, but the next morning staff located the senior citizen unharmed on a staircase in an annex building.

In Lienz, Austria, a 74‑year‑old woman who had taken a bus to begin a hike was reported missing. After four days she was discovered in the Wilfener valley, severely chilled but responsive. A large rescue effort involving mountain‑rescue personnel, fire‑brigade members, a police helicopter and a search dog led to her extraction and transport by medical helicopter to the district hospital.
