Elderly health guidance focuses on respiratory risks and proper napping habits
Health experts are highlighting critical wellness practices and risks for the elderly, focusing on respiratory infections and proper rest habits.
Medical professionals from the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City warn that influenza, RSV, and pneumococcal diseases pose significant risks to older adults. Due to declining immune systems and common chronic conditions like hypertension or diabetes, these infections can lead to severe complications. Experts emphasize the importance of distinguishing between viral and bacterial infections to avoid the dangers of self-treatment.
Additionally, guidance has been issued regarding midday rest habits to prevent long-term health issues. For individuals over 55, it is recommended to limit naps to 20–30 minutes to avoid deep sleep disorientation. Experts advise against napping immediately after eating to prevent digestive issues like acid reflux, and caution against sleeping face down or curled up in chairs, which can impair breathing and cause chest discomfort.
