Elderly Man Defrauded of Over €2,000 in Oberhof, Germany

An elderly man was walking in Oberhof on Thursday afternoon when a stranger approached him, asking for directions. The stranger then requested fuel money and later asked to borrow cash for a trip to Berlin and a return to Dubai. Persuaded by the man's confident demeanor, the victim invited the stranger to his apartment, handed over cash and allowed the thief to withdraw additional funds from an ATM, totaling more than €2,000.

After driving the victim home, the fraudster gave inexpensive items claimed to be valuable gifts. The victim later realized the deception. Police recorded a fraud report and issued a warning to avoid giving cash or inviting unknown persons into one’s home.
