Elderly Man Killed by KA Bengawan Train in Sleman, Indonesia
A 73‑year‑old man from Gunungkidul was fatally struck by the KA Bengawan passenger train on the eastern track of the Janti flyover in Caturtunggal, Sleman on 2 August 2026 at about 17:25 local time. Police say the victim, identified only as N, was crossing the tracks while carrying a sack of scrap metal and had a hearing impairment. Witnesses attempted to warn him, but the train was too close to avoid the collision. The body was recovered at the scene and taken to RS Bhayangkara for identification.
Polresta Sleman, led by IPTU Argo Anggoro, opened an investigation and reminded the public to use official railway crossings and to ensure safety before crossing tracks, noting the high speed and long braking distance of trains. The police also referenced a recent, non‑fatal incident in Bantul where a Brimob vehicle was hit by a train, underscoring ongoing safety concerns on the region’s rail network.
