Elderly victims targeted in separate fraud incidents in Brazil and Spain

Separate incidents of financial fraud targeting elderly individuals have been reported in Brazil and Spain.

In California, Paraná, a 70-year-old man narrowly avoided a scam after a criminal impersonated his lawyer via WhatsApp. The fraudster used specific details about a lawsuit against a bank to gain trust, even conducting a video call and sending a link for a fake virtual hearing. The attempt was thwarted when the man consulted his bank manager and his actual attorney after the scammer demanded bank statements.

In Gandia, Spain, a 29-year-old bank employee was detained by the Guarda Civil for allegedly defrauding an elderly foreign resident of 25,000 euros. The investigation revealed that the employee accessed the victim's data and used an unauthorized card to make withdrawals over several months. The victim reported that the employee also interfered with her banking application access after she requested a card cancellation.
