Elders uncertain about future in NSW wool market

Agribusiness giant Elders has declined to confirm its future wool selling operations in New South Wales as several brokers prepare to relocate their Sydney operations to Goulburn. While other agencies, including Nutrien and AWN, are planning to move their entire Sydney wool operations to the new Goulburn selling centre, Elders has not stated whether it will relocate its Yennora operations or maintain a presence at NSW auctions.

A spokesperson for Elders stated the company is “deeply committed” to its NSW clients and is working through what the industry transition means for its arrangements. This follows a previous announcement that Elders would process and sell all its Western Australian wool through Melbourne, leading to the closure of its Rockingham facility.

The new Goulburn selling centre is expected to be ready for wool auctions by the first week of sales in 2027. During the 2025-26 season, Elders was responsible for nearly 25,000 bales sold through Yennora, which accounted for approximately 29.1 per cent of the national throughput.
