Elecom releases single-sided retractable USB cable

Elecom has released a new retractable USB cable, model MPA-CCECRLR09, designed to address common usability issues found in traditional center-retractable models. Unlike standard cables where the winding mechanism is located in the middle, this design allows the cable to be pulled out from one side, placing the winding unit closer to the connector.

This single-sided design prevents the bulky central housing from hitting desks or bodies and eliminates the gravitational pull that often causes cables to hang awkwardly or put tension on connected devices. The product also features built-in magnets to secure the non-retractable side when not in use.

While the cable offers high-speed retraction, it is limited to a maximum power delivery of 60W (20V/3A), making it suitable for smartphones, tablets, and lightweight laptops like the MacBook Air, but not for high-power devices like the MacBook Pro. The cable length is 0.9 meters.
