Election Commission announces Legislative Council polls in four Indian states

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for biennial Legislative Council elections across four states: Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The elections will focus on Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies.

Polling is scheduled to take place on October 23, with the counting of votes and announcement of results set for October 27. The official notification for these elections will be issued on September 29, and candidates have until October 6 to file their nominations. The deadline for the withdrawal of applications is October 9.

A total of 28 seats are up for election, with Uttar Pradesh holding the largest share of 11 seats. In Maharashtra, five seats are being contested, while Bihar has eight, Karnataka has four, and Uttar Pradesh has 11. The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately for all relevant constituencies.
