Election Commission of India modernizes voter verification process

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a modernized online voter verification process to help citizens resolve discrepancies and prevent unauthorized removal from electoral rolls. Voters can use the ECI Voter Service Portal or official mobile apps to upload necessary documentation. The requirements for verification vary by age group: individuals born before July 1, 1987, require self-attested birth and place of birth proof, while those born later must provide additional generational lineage and residence documentation.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that India's electoral process is among the most transparent globally due to multi-stage verification involving political parties and agents. He noted that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) work to identify absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, or foreign entries (ASDDF) to ensure roll accuracy. The transparency extends to polling and counting, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPATs undergo mock polls and verification in the presence of candidate agents.
