Election Commission of India reinforces safeguards amid voter registration drives
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is utilizing statutory safeguards and administrative procedures to manage electoral rolls and address public scrutiny regarding digital platforms and roll revisions. The Commission operates as a multi-member constitutional authority, emphasizing that electoral rolls cannot be altered through automated processes without the involvement of authorized officers and specific statutory procedures.
In Odisha, a recent three-day special voter registration drive resulted in 33,515 new Form-6 applications, with 32,067 submitted by first-time and young voters. To support this, the administration established 26,446 special camps across the state. Booth Level Officers will continue door-to-door verification and registration assistance through the end of October to ensure an inclusive and accurate voter list.
