Election Commission of India unveils voter inclusion plan and schedules July by‑polls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced a mechanism to ensure that voters whose houses have been demolished are not excluded from the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi. Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said the system will allow Booth Level Officers to verify temporary or unconventional addresses and give affected voters the chance to file claims and objections before the draft roll is published on August 5. The month‑long door‑to‑door enumeration runs from June 30 to July 29 across Delhi and several other states.

In a separate update, the ECI issued the schedule for three by‑elections in the assembly constituencies of Bankipur (Bihar), Datia (Madhya Pradesh) and Manjalpur (Gujarat). Polling is set for July 30 with results to be counted on August 3. The vacancies arose from a resignation, a disqualification and a death respectively. The Commission confirmed that the electoral rolls for these seats have already been finalised under the SIR process and that electronic voting machines with VVPAT will be used. Model Code of Conduct and candidate disclosure requirements were also reiterated.
