Election Commission SIR controversy sparks legal disputes in India

BJP MP and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has alleged that the state government is acting unlawfully by registering First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Bommai stated that the Election Commission has clarified it has not lodged any complaints regarding the SIR process, meaning FIRs filed based on complaints from private individuals are illegal.

Bommai further alleged that Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has exerted pressure on the Election Commission. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has reported that it has not received any formal meeting requests from political parties, despite efforts by Rahul Gandhi to seek an audience with the Chief Election Commissioner amid the ongoing SIR controversy.
