Elections Alberta warns of misinformation targeting VoterLink

Elections Alberta has issued a public advisory regarding a coordinated surge of digital misinformation targeting VoterLink, the province’s online voter registration platform. Ahead of the referendum scheduled for October 19, officials report that false narratives on social media are attempting to undermine public trust in the electoral process.

Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure characterized these claims as a deliberate effort to sow confusion and doubt regarding the security of the digital infrastructure. The misinformation specifically targets the reliability of the registration system, which allows citizens to register for the first time, verify their status, or update personal details such as addresses and legal names.

Elections Alberta has reassured the public that the system remains secure, data is safe, and no registrations are being altered or deleted. The agency noted that the goal of these rumors appears to be the erosion of voter confidence and the potential suppression of turnout during the upcoming vote.
