Electoral authorities in Chihuahua and Colombia prepare for 2027 elections
In Chihuahua, Mexico, the State Electoral Institute (IEE) is establishing collaboration agreements with judicial, ministerial, and security authorities. The goal is to verify the information of individuals seeking candidacy for the 2027 elections and identify potential legal impediments before registration.
President Counselor Yanko Durán Prieto stated that the institute is working on formalizing agreements to share candidate lists with various authorities. This includes coordination with the Civil Registry, the State Superior Court of Justice, and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) to ensure compliance with current legislation.
In Colombia, the Electoral Observation Mission (MOE) has launched its observation process for the regional elections scheduled for October 2027. Concerns raised include electoral 'trashumancia' (voter migration), public order issues, and pressure from illegal armed groups in certain regions.
National Registrar Hernán Penagos noted that the 2027 elections will require significant logistical effort, with more than 110,000 candidates expected to participate. The National Electoral Council (CNE) also emphasized the need to prevent the irregular registration of identification cards to protect election integrity.
