Electoral tribunals issue rulings on local political disputes in Mexico and Ecuador

In Mexico, the Regional Chamber of the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) has ordered the Electoral Tribunal of the State of Hidalgo (TEEH) to review a complaint filed by four councilors in Tepeji del Río. The councilors alleged that Municipal President Tania Valdez Cuellar hindered their ability to perform their duties through repeated cancellations and rescheduling of meetings. The TEPJF ruled that the TEEH had prematurely declared itself incompetent, noting that the reported behaviors must be evaluated to determine if they constitute an actual impact on the councilors' political and electoral rights.

In Ecuador, the Contencioso Electoral Tribunal (TCE) has dismissed a complaint against Quito Mayor Pabel Muñoz. The complaint, filed by Jennifer Alicia Celorio Suárez, sought sanctions following a Metropolitan Council resolution that expressed rejection of political proscription and exclusion. The judge presiding over the case, Ivonne Coloma, ruled that the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter, citing specific legal grounds for incompetence regarding the council's resolution.
