Electric cars use energy equal to about 1.5 L of gasoline per 100 km
One litre of gasoline contains roughly 9–10 kWh of energy. When an electric car records an average consumption of about 15 kWh per 100 km, this translates to the energy equivalent of approximately 1.5 L of gasoline for the same distance.
By contrast, a comparable conventional gasoline‑powered vehicle typically requires 6–7 L of fuel per 100 km. The difference stems from the higher efficiency of electric motors, which convert a larger share of stored energy into motion, whereas internal‑combustion engines lose a substantial portion as heat and friction. Charging at home further reduces operating costs because residential electricity rates are usually lower than public‑charging prices.
