Electric mobility options and technical requirements

Electric mobility vehicles, such as electric mopeds and high-power electric bicycles, are increasingly available as alternatives for urban transport.

Electric mopeds classified under the L1e category do not require a conventional motorcycle license (A1, A2, or A). Instead, they can be operated with an AM license, obtainable from age 15, or a standard B car license. To qualify as a moped, these two-wheeled vehicles must have a maximum continuous nominal power of 4 kW and a construction speed limit of 45 km/h. These vehicles are prohibited from using highways or motorways.

In the electric bicycle sector, high-performance models like the URLIFE T5 offer greater power than standard pedal-assist bikes. Such models may feature 750 W motors, wide tires, and suspension systems for varied terrain. However, due to higher power outputs, users must verify local homologation and legal restrictions regarding where these vehicles can be operated.
