Electric motorbike sales surge in Vietnam ahead of new school year

The electric motorbike market in Vietnam is experiencing a surge in demand ahead of the new school year, particularly in Hanoi. Dealerships for brands such as VinFast and Yadea report significant sales growth for electric models designed for students that do not require a driver's license. For instance, one VinFast dealership noted sales of student-oriented electric bikes increased by nearly 50% compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, the market for small-capacity gasoline motorcycles (under 50cc) is seeing a decline. Retailers attribute this shift to urban policies aimed at restricting gasoline-powered vehicles in city centers. While electric bikes are gaining popularity, experts warn of safety risks involving students who illegally modify vehicle components or batteries to increase speeds beyond the standard 50km/h limit.
