Electric motorcycles face faster component wear in Vietnam

Electric motorcycles in Vietnam are seeing increased demand due to fluctuating fuel prices, but they present unique maintenance challenges. While they have fewer mechanical parts than internal combustion engine vehicles—lacking spark plugs and engine oil—certain components may wear out faster.

Due to the heavy weight of large battery packs and the use of in-hub motors located directly in the rear wheel, tires on electric motorcycles tend to wear down more quickly. Estimates suggest electric motorcycle tires may last between 10,000 and 15,000 km, which is approximately 20-30% less than the 15,000 to 20,000 km lifespan typical of gasoline-powered motorcycles. Brake pads are also identified as a high-wear component in these vehicles.
