Electric Picnic director confirms Stradbally location and warns against drug use
Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, has reaffirmed Electric Picnic’s long-term commitment to its home in Stradbally. Speaking at a press day ahead of the 2026 festival, Benn stated there are no immediate plans to increase the event's current 80,000-person capacity, noting that the current size is sufficient for the time being.
Benn also addressed safety concerns regarding recreational drug use, specifically urging attendees to avoid ketamine. He described the use of the anesthetic as “the most nonsense thing in the world to take” and emphasized the dangers of illegal substances. To support harm reduction, the festival will host the HSE’s service, allowing attendees to receive information and anonymously surrender substances for testing.
Regarding the musical lineup, Benn highlighted the strength of the Irish music scene, suggesting that the festival’s programming reflects the high quality of local talent.
