Electric rental cars cheaper than gasoline in Denmark, Sweden and Canada

Data from travel search engine KAYAK show that renting an electric vehicle can save travelers up to €49 per day in Denmark, about €26 per day in Sweden and €21 per day in Canada compared with gasoline cars. In the United Kingdom electric rentals are roughly €12 cheaper per day, while in Germany gasoline cars are about €21 cheaper than electric models. Prices in Italy and the United States are roughly equal for both powertrains.

KAYAK attributes the lower electric‑car rates in Denmark, Sweden and Canada to government incentives for zero‑emission vehicles or extra taxes on high‑emission cars, according to a statement by Yvonne Bonanati of KAYAK. The company also offers tips for locating and renting electric cars, such as filtering for "fully electric" fuel type and checking vehicle class and charging limits.
