Electric scooter collisions injure minors in Hungary and Romania

In Balatonboglár, Hungary, a 12‑year‑old boy riding an electric scooter without a helmet struck a woman on the Platán beach promenade on 21 July 2026. The woman suffered serious injuries, the boy sustained minor injuries, and both were taken to hospital. Police emphasized that improper use of scooters and lack of protective gear increase accident risk and urged parents to enforce traffic rules.

In Suceava County, Romania, a 51‑year‑old driver deliberately pursued a 14‑year‑old scooter rider after the teenager made an obscene gesture. The driver chased the rider for about two kilometres, struck the scooter with his car, and then assaulted the fallen teen on the road before fleeing. The teenager suffered bruises requiring a few days of recovery. The driver was detained on attempted homicide, vandalism and assault charges, and his vehicle was seized.
