Electric vans utilize V2L technology to power professional tools

Electric vans are increasingly serving as mobile power sources for professional tradespeople, potentially replacing traditional petrol or diesel generators. Through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, these vehicles allow users to power tools and electrical appliances directly from the traction battery, reducing the need for extra equipment, maintenance, and noise pollution at work sites.

The Kia PV5, recognized as the 2026 International Van of the Year, features V2L capability providing 220V voltage and up to 3.5 kW of power. This output is comparable to a standard 16-amp domestic power line, sufficient for drills, saws, and battery chargers. In the Latvian market, this function is available via a Charging Pack starting at 435 euros. In comparison, the Ford E-Transit Custom's Pro Power Onboard system offers up to 2.3 kW of power.
