Electric vehicle adoption grows as performance tests challenge diesel dominance
Recent data and observations highlight shifting trends in the electric vehicle (EV) market. A survey of 552 American EV owners conducted by CDK Global reveals high brand loyalty; 90 percent of respondents intend to purchase another electric vehicle for their next car. This marks a significant shift from the previous year, when 21 percent of owners considered returning to internal combustion engines. Additionally, the survey noted an increase in the use of used EV models and cited lower maintenance and charging costs as primary drivers for satisfaction.
In terms of performance, the high horsepower of modern electric vehicles is being tested against traditional heavy machinery. A video comparison featured a Ford F-150 Lightning, an electric pickup with up to 588 horsepower, racing a tuned Kenworth W900 diesel truck. Despite the rapid acceleration capabilities of the electric Ford, the Kenworth—which is significantly heavier and possesses much higher torque—outperformed the pickup in the race.
