Electric vehicle and motorcycle sales surge globally

Global demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and electric motorcycles is rising significantly, driven by high fuel costs and a shift toward low-emission transportation.

In Europe, rising gasoline and diesel prices have accelerated the transition to battery electric vehicles (BEVs). In August, BEV sales in Europe—including the UK, Switzerland, and Norway—increased by 52.2% compared to the previous year. Germany saw a 75% surge in BEV sales, while France reported more than double the sales of the previous year. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), BEVs accounted for 21.7% of the EU new car market through August, up from 15.8% in the prior year. Hybrid vehicles remain the most popular choice in the EU, holding a 36.6% market share.

Simultaneously, the electric motorcycle market is experiencing rapid growth. Global electric motorcycle sales reached approximately 10.17 million units in 2025, a 19.7% increase. By early September 2026, global consumption reached 6.62 million units, up 18.6% year-on-year. While Asia remains a major player, growth is expanding globally, with Africa seeing an 86.9% increase and Southeast Asia growing by 83%.
