Electric vehicle charging costs vary by provider and location in France

Electric vehicle charging costs in France vary significantly depending on the vehicle model, electricity plan, and charging location. For Tesla owners, home charging costs for 1,000 km range from approximately €9.76 to €31.22, depending on the specific model and the electricity provider used. For instance, using Octopus Energy’s intelligent managed charging can reduce costs to as low as €9.76 per 1,000 km, whereas standard EDF Blue Tariff base options can exceed €31 per 1,000 km.

In the retail sector, a price war has emerged between supermarkets regarding public charging stations. Leclerc has introduced a rate of €0.17 per kWh for its 22 kW charging stations via the Charge E-Lec app, slightly undercutting Lidl’s rate of €0.18 per kWh. While these supermarket rates are competitive, they offer marginal savings compared to home charging during off-peak hours, where electricity can cost as little as €0.1589 per kWh. These retail charging options are primarily beneficial for drivers without home charging access or those with vehicles capable of utilizing 22 kW charging speeds.
