Electric vehicle charging technology and infrastructure trends

Developments in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure are addressing barriers to adoption for drivers without domestic charging access. One potential solution involves the use of ‘virtual MPANs’ (Meter Point Administration Numbers). By virtualizing these unique grid connection numbers, drivers could theoretically use public chargers while being billed at domestic electricity rates, effectively mirroring the cost of home charging.

Additionally, EV charging is becoming a strategic asset for commercial properties. For retail, hospitality, and office spaces, installing charging stations can attract tenants and customers who plan their travel around charging availability. Because charging requires a period of downtime, it often encourages longer visits, providing opportunities for increased consumer spending at nearby businesses.
