Electric vehicle competition intensifies in Brazil

The Brazilian electric vehicle market is seeing increased competition as new compact models prepare to challenge the BYD Dolphin Mini.

At the Interlagos Festival 2026, Dongfeng (operating as DFM in Brazil) introduced the Box Urban, an all-electric compact hatchback. The model offers an autonomy of up to 302 km and is part of a broader market entry strategy that includes a planned network of 60 dealerships and a 10-year warranty. Dongfeng also presented the Vigo Urban Plus, an SUV designed to compete with models from BYD and GWM.

Additionally, the Wuling Bingo Pro is expected to enter the Brazilian market by 2027, potentially integrated into the Chevrolet lineup. Speculation suggests the model could revive the Celta nameplate. The Bingo Pro is estimated to cost approximately R$ 120,000 and features a 380-liter trunk, which is significantly larger than the 230-liter capacity of the BYD Dolphin Mini. The vehicle is expected to offer an autonomy range between 330 km and 403 km.
