Electric vehicle costs and benefits for businesses and families
Analysis of electric and hybrid vehicle adoption highlights significant cost savings and operational considerations for both corporate fleets and private users. For businesses, Audi suggests evaluating three powertrain families—e-tron, e-hybrid, and TFSI e—based on daily mileage and charging availability. Fully electric e-tron models are most efficient for routes where charging infrastructure is accessible, such as overnight charging at office locations using 22 kW stations.
For individual consumers, data from Motus-E indicates that electric vehicles offer substantial savings compared to internal combustion engines. On average, traveling 100 km in an electric car costs approximately 5.50 euros, compared to 11.60 euros for gasoline and 11.50 euros for diesel. These savings increase if charging is primarily done at home, where the cost per 100 km can drop to 4.50 euros. Over an annual distance of 12,000 km, electric vehicle owners could save more than 850 euros per year compared to gasoline vehicles. Furthermore, the total cost of ownership, including maintenance and insurance, remains lower for battery electric vehicles.
