Electric vehicle fleet electrification accelerates with new charging schemes and solar power projects

Electrification of transport and industry is being promoted as the primary route to meet global net‑zero goals. The International Energy Agency says shifting heating, cooling and transport to electricity is essential for 2050 targets, while U.S. policies such as the Inflation Reduction Act provide tax credits for heat‑pump and electric‑vehicle installations.

In the United Kingdom, a £170 million multi‑year Depot Charging Scheme launched in March 2026 will fund up to 70 % of charge‑point and civil costs for depots through 2030, encouraging fleets to plan charging based on data, site grid capacity and operational patterns. Meanwhile in India, Ashok Leyland has installed a 1.5 MW rooftop solar system at its Lucknow electric‑bus factory, expected to supply about 50 % of the plant’s electricity, save roughly ₹13 million in the first year and achieve payback within three years. These initiatives illustrate a coordinated push across regions to combine renewable generation with electric‑vehicle infrastructure to cut emissions.
