Electric vehicle frunk use as coolers poses damage risks

Social media trends showing electric vehicle owners using the 'frunk' (front luggage compartment) as a cooler for beverages pose significant risks to vehicle integrity. While models like the Geely EX2 offer substantial front storage—up to 70 liters and 25 kg of capacity—these spaces are not designed to hold melting ice or liquids.

Eduardo Zambelli, director of electromobility at the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineering (AEA), warns that water accumulation from melting ice or condensation can reach electrical connections, electronic systems, seals, and interior linings. Such misuse may lead to mechanical damage and could potentially void manufacturer warranties.

Additionally, the use of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which allows cars to power external appliances, requires caution. Reports of users powering devices like air fryers in damp or flooded environments highlight the risk of electric shock and damage to both the vehicle and the equipment.
