Electric vehicle interest rises amid fuel price shifts and insurance cost concerns

Consumer interest in electric vehicles is rising in response to fluctuating fuel costs and international geopolitical tensions. In Portugal, data from Standvirtual shows a 23% increase in searches for electric vehicles during the first weeks of September compared to the previous year. Conversely, interest in gasoline and diesel vehicles fell by a combined 25%. This shift is attributed to rising fuel prices linked to international conflicts.

In Brazil, while electric vehicles offer savings on fuel and maintenance, insurance costs remain a significant factor for owners. A survey by Creditas Seguros indicates that electric models, such as the BYD Dolphin, continue to command higher insurance premiums than conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. For example, the average insurance cost for a BYD Dolphin was significantly higher than that of a Volkswagen Polo Track, despite recent decreases in electric vehicle insurance quotes.
