Electric vehicle interest rises amid high fuel prices

Rising fuel costs are shifting consumer attitudes toward electric vehicles (EVs). In the United States, the HERE-SBD EV Index 2026 indicates that 53 percent of drivers are more open to purchasing an EV than a year ago. This shift is driven by high fuel prices, with diesel averaging over six dollars per gallon in September 2026 due to geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions. Additionally, confidence in public charging infrastructure in the US has risen from 28 to 47 percent.

In Europe, the European Commission’s Consumer Monitor 2025 shows that while four out of five drivers hold positive or neutral views toward EVs, many still question their practical and economic suitability for daily use.

The electric vehicle market in Slovakia has expanded significantly, offering a wider range of models across various price points. Entry-level options from brands like BYD and Leapmotor are now available for under 20,000 euros. The market also features diverse segments, including compact cars from Hyundai, family-oriented models from Kia and Skoda, and high-end options from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The presence of official Tesla showrooms and service centers in Slovakia further supports the growing availability of electric mobility.
