Electric vehicle interest rises among young drivers and tradespeople
Recent research indicates a significant shift toward electric vehicle (EV) adoption among younger drivers and tradespeople. A study by E. ON Next found that 55% of new learner drivers want their first vehicle to be fully electric, citing lower day-to-day running costs as a primary motivator. Additionally, 63% of young drivers believe petrol and diesel vehicles will disappear during their lifetime.
In the commercial sector, research commissioned by Farizon shows that 71% of tradespeople would consider an electric van as their next work vehicle. This interest is particularly high among younger workers, with 85% of tradespeople aged 18-24 expressing interest in switching, compared to 33% of those aged 65 and over. Despite this high level of interest, current sales figures for light commercial vehicles do not yet fully reflect these intentions.
