Electric vehicle manufacturers pivot toward battery integration and efficiency
The automotive industry is seeing shifts in battery technology and efficiency strategies. Leapmotor, a subsidiary partially owned by Stellantis, is introducing CTC 3.0 technology to address the reliability issues of traditional 12V lead-acid batteries. This new system integrates high-voltage propulsion and low-voltage accessory networks into a single battery, providing seven times more low-voltage capacity and potentially eliminating the need for auxiliary lead-acid batteries.
In a different approach to electric vehicle design, the Ford Puma Gen-E, produced by Ford Otosan in Craiova, focuses on powertrain efficiency rather than large battery capacity. Utilizing a 47 kWh battery, the vehicle has demonstrated consumption rates between 9 and 12 kWh/100 km in testing. This efficiency allows the model to achieve ranges comparable to competitors with much larger batteries. The 2026 model features optimized battery design, increasing WLTP range up to 417 km, and includes upgraded audio and connectivity services.
