Electric vehicle owners report high satisfaction despite technical hurdles

An ADAC survey of over 1,000 electric vehicle (BEV) owners in Germany reveals high levels of user satisfaction, with 97 percent of respondents reporting they are satisfied or very satisfied with their vehicles. Approximately 84 percent of participants use their electric car as their primary household vehicle, and 66 percent drive it at least 200 days per year. Most users who transitioned from internal combustion engines found the switch easy or very easy.

Despite high satisfaction, users noted specific challenges, such as range loss during winter months. Additionally, technical hurdles remain regarding bidirectional charging capabilities. While technologies like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) offer potential for energy management, implementation is complicated by software restrictions from manufacturers, the need for specific ISO 15118-20 communication standards, and the high cost of bidirectional hardware.
