Bentley and Porsche highlight performance and power measurement nuances

Automotive manufacturers are facing scrutiny over how power figures are reported for electric and high-performance vehicles. For electric cars like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, there is a significant discrepancy between peak power advertised via the GTR 21 standard and the sustained power measured by the ECE R85 standard. While the Taycan can reach 1,108 hp for only two seconds, its homologated power in Germany is rated at just 223 hp to account for heat management and battery limitations.

In the luxury segment, Bentley has unveiled the Supersports, a rear-wheel-drive coupe featuring a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. This model is significantly lighter than previous hybrid versions, weighing under 2,000 kg. To support its performance, Pirelli has developed specialized P Zero Trofeo RS tires designed to handle the car’s increased downforce and unique weight distribution.
