Electric vehicle range efficiency tips for winter driving

Cold temperatures can reduce the range of electric vehicles by up to 40 percent compared to manufacturer specifications under optimal conditions. In some cases, winter weather can shorten range by more than 30 percent.

To optimize efficiency and save money, drivers can implement several strategies. Pre-heating the cabin while the vehicle is still charging prevents the battery from being used for climate control during the trip. Additionally, using seat or steering wheel heaters instead of increasing the overall cabin temperature can be more energy-efficient. Drivers are also encouraged to utilize ECO modes or individual settings in the infotainment system to disable high-energy features and maintain a balance between comfort and range.
