Electric vehicle sector sees charging expansion and efficiency breakthroughs

The electric vehicle market is seeing developments in both charging infrastructure and vehicle efficiency. In Spain and Portugal, Iberdrola has deployed up to 3,500 charging points across approximately 800 Mercadona supermarket locations. While the pricing is considered competitive by some, the actual utility of these chargers depends heavily on the vehicle's technical specifications. Depending on whether a car accepts 7.4 kW, 11 kW, or 22 kW of alternating current, a 30-minute charge could provide anywhere from 23 km to 69 km of range.

In automotive manufacturing, Audi has introduced the A2 e-tron, a compact electric vehicle designed for high efficiency. The model features a WLTP-rated range of 646 km with an energy consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 km. The vehicle utilizes a drag coefficient of 0.24 and offers various battery options ranging from 52 to 84 kWh. Additionally, the A2 e-tron includes bidirectional charging capabilities, such as Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home technology.
