Electric vehicle technologies address range and charging concerns
The electric vehicle market continues to evolve through different engineering approaches to address range anxiety. Extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) utilize a small battery paired with a gasoline engine that acts solely as a generator to maintain charge, rather than driving the wheels directly. While models like the Chevrolet Volt, BMW i3 REx, and Mazda MX-30 R-EV have explored this concept, the complexity of managing two complete powertrains remains a challenge for many automakers.
In the battery electric vehicle (BEV) sector, the Jaecoo J5 BEV aims to mitigate charging concerns through rapid charging capabilities. The vehicle features a 60.9-kWh battery providing 402 kilometers of range, with the ability to charge from 30 to 80 percent in 28 minutes. Additionally, the J5 includes a 3.3 kW Vehicle to Load (V2L) function for external power discharge and a dedicated Camping Mode to manage energy consumption for outdoor activities.
