Electric vehicle technology advances in battery materials and charging practices
Developments in electric vehicle (EV) technology are addressing both hardware engineering and user charging habits. Envalior is working on new thermoplastic formulations to manage the high heat generated by 800V and higher fast-charging systems. These materials are being engineered to balance flame retardancy with mechanical properties, which is critical for structural battery components like end plates and enclosures.
Regarding usage, discussions around the common ‘80% rule’ suggest that the practice of limiting charges to 80% is often more about time efficiency than preventing immediate battery damage. While fast-charging speeds typically decrease after 80% to protect battery health, drivers may find value in charging beyond this limit during longer stops or when extra range is required for distance between chargers.
