Electricidade de Moçambique announces scheduled power outages
Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has announced a series of scheduled power outages across several provinces in Mozambique to facilitate preventive maintenance on electrical infrastructure. These works involve both EDM systems and the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric plant to ensure long-term network stability and reliability.
On September 16 and 17, 2026, interruptions are scheduled for parts of Gaza and Inhambane provinces. Specifically, Gaza will experience outages in Chicumbane and Zongoene, while Inhambane will see disruptions in the Massinga and Morrumbene districts.
A larger scale of outages is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026. This will affect eight provinces, including Tete, Zambezia, Nampula, Cabo Delgado, and Niassa, which are expected to face total province-wide outages between 08:00 and 17:00. Other affected areas include Sofala, Manica, Inhambane, and specific districts within them. EDM advises the public to treat all electrical installations as live during these periods.
